counselling for children & young people
I am deeply passionate about working with my younger clients, and always approach each session uniquely, adapting sessions depending on what the young person's needs are. Some people are creative and enjoy crafts whilst we talk, some like sessions to be more active so we might walk and talk or play a game, and others simply need a calm space to be able to relax and be heard without judgement.
Whoever walks through my door, they will always be met with kindness, compassion, empathy, and a calm approach in a warm environment.
As well as working privately across all ages, I worked with Kooth and Area43 for many years, providing counselling in high schools across Powys. I have supported young people with all types of challenges, neurodiversity, mental health issues, and SEND children with varying levels of special needs. I now take referrals from local schools that are looking for extra support for pupils outside of school hours.
Throughout my career, I have had the honor of supporting young people with many different challenges, including;

Taster Sessions
It is important for young people to want to come for counselling, not just because they feel that they have to, or to please someone else.
As 50 minutes with a stranger can feel quite daunting, I offer an initial 30 minute taster session so that the young person can decide themselves if they would like to continue with sessions. I also check in often with my young clients, and ask for regular feedback as we work together. This is an important part of the process, it is empowering and helps towards building a stronger therapeutic relationship.
